We arrived at the guesthouse early in the morning, where the staff welcomed us with a smile and hot coffee. After resting from the fatigue of the trip, after a hearty breakfast, we set off in the direction of Lake Fertő, looking forward to discovering this special landscape.

In autumn, the area around Lake Fertő is a real paradise for nature lovers. The reeds and marshes surrounding the lake hide a rich bird life, so it is no coincidence that it is one of the favorite destinations for bird watchers. Walking along the promenades along the coast, a stunning view opens up: the calm water surface is surrounded by the picturesque background of reeds and mountains in the distance. So did we. After a short stop in Fertőrákos, where we saw the famous quarry, we continued by bicycle. Along the way we were accompanied by the calm view of the lake, while here and there we spotted a heron among the reeds. Along the way, we also visited a local winery, where we tasted the local specialties and the delicacies of the Fertő-tavi wine region.

 

Cultural attractions – Fertőrákos and Rust

It is worth visiting Lake Fertő not only because of the nature, but also because of the rich cultural heritage of the area. The famous quarry of Fertőrákos offers an impressive sight, but the settlement itself awaits visitors with historical treasures. The sanctuary of Mithras located here is a special archaeological find that gives a glimpse into the ancient Roman world of belief.

Not far from Lake Fertő is Rust, which lies on the Austrian side and is one of the most beautiful wine towns in the region. Walking through the cobbled streets of Rust, you can immediately feel the historical past, the small-town atmosphere, and of course the winemaking traditions are everywhere. If you would like to linger a bit, it is worth visiting a winery and tasting the local wines, for example the famous Ruszti Aszu.

After a long and eventful day, we returned to the Regia Pension, where a pleasant dinner awaited us. After the night spent in the guesthouse, we felt perfectly rested and recharged.
